Freshman third baseman Jenna Sniffen had a dip in her hitting early in Big 12 play, but it’s come back in a big way the last two weeks. It was the difference in Arizona softball’s 2-0 win at Kansas on Friday afternoon.
Sniffen went seven games without a hit in a Big 12 game stretching back to Utah’s visit to Arizona. She started coming out of it against BYU. She now has hits in five of her last six games. Friday marked the second time in the past four games that she racked up three hits.
Sniffen was responsible for getting the ball rolling both times the Wildcats scored. She hit a solo home run to lead off the third and break the 0-0 stalemate. It was the freshman’s fifth career home run.

Sniffen again led off an inning in the top of the fifth. This time it was a single. While Sniffen didn’t score the run this time, pinch runner Zaedi Tagalog came around to give Arizona the insurance run. Sniffen picked up her third hit of the game to lead off the seventh, although Arizona wasn’t able to bring her across this time.
Sniffen and Kaiah Altmeyer were responsible for Arizona’s two RBI.
Miranda Stoddard got the start and the win on her birthday. She and Devyn Netz combined for a four-hit shutout with Stoddard giving up all four hits. Stoddard also surrendered two walks in her six innings of work.
Netz came in with runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the seventh. She struck out the only three batters she faced to earn the save.
Arizona (34-7, 11-5 Big 12) will try to secure the series with a win on Saturday. First pitch against Kansas (17-18, 4-9) is scheduled for noon MST. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
