Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is well regarded for being an involved parent to his three children, but when it came to his youngest son Bryce’s college recruitment, LeBron wanted the decision to be all Bryce’s doing.
“It was his decision to make,” LeBron said of Bryce James’ commitment to Arizona. “He went where he felt comfortable.”
LeBron was asked about Bryce’s decision following the Lakers’ Thursday night win over the Portland Trail Blazers. LeBron indicated Bryce’s relationship with coach Tommy Lloyd and the Arizona coaching staff played a big role in the commitment.
“Straight shooter, coach Lloyd is a straight shooter. Gave him exactly what they believe in him and what they thought him as a person and a player. Happy to be a part of Bear Down community now.”

LeBron couldn’t answer the question without getting a little dig in at his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye.
“I’ve got some terrible friends in Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye that are alum there so I’m not too excited about that,” LeBron joked. “Other than that we’re excited to go be a part of the Tucson community.”
LeBron is no stranger to playing alongside former Wildcats, including one his teammates this year, Christian Koloko. The former Arizona center had his best game in a Lakers uniform Thursday, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes, all of which are season highs.
Next up for Koloko: Getting LeBron an Arizona Wildcats hat.
