Editor’s note: With several sports going on, Wildcat Wrap serves as a recap that focuses on the Arizona programs that we do not have the time to cover on a regular basis but are certainly worthy of recognition.
Arizona men’s tennis returned to the court over the weekend, with the Wildcats posting strong results in their first fall tournaments of the season.
Arizona hosted the Wildcat Invite in Tucson, where several singles and doubles players picked up wins.
Arizona went undefeated in doubles at the Wildcat Invite, knocking off opponents from San Diego State, New Mexico State, New Mexico and Gonzaga.
Underclassmen Alexander Rozin (freshman) and Filip Gustafsson (sophomore) earned a doubles point over NMSU on the first day of the invite, then beat a pair from SDSU on day two. Rozin and Gustafson also won a tight tiebreaker over NAU .

Arizona sent a couple players to the Battle in the Bay, including Jay Friend who advanced to the tournament’s singles quarterfinals.
Beach volleyball
Two Arizona beach volleyball freshmen were named AVCA Junior Beach All-Americans.
Addisyn Brinkerhoff was named to the second team, while Katielyn Lambeth was named an honorable mention.
Brinkerhoff was a four-time All-Region selection at American Leadership Academy Gilbert North High School.
Lambeth was a 6A 1st Team All-Region for high school beach in 2024 at Sandra Day O’Connor High School.
Cross country
Arizona cross country competed at the Cougar Classic in Colfax, Wash. last week, where the men finished fourth overall in their first 8k of the season and the women placed eighth in their first 6k of the season.
The Arizona men were led by Gideon Mengich, who placed sixth with a time of 23:59.4. Right behind him was Ian Sanchez Lopez at 24:15.8 to place 12th.
Alisa Lyesina had the top time for the women at 21:54.7 to place 39th.
Arizona will host the Dave Murray Invitational on Sept. 28 in Tucson.
