
Editor’s note: With several sports going on, Wildcat Wrap serves as a recap that focuses on the Arizona programs that we do not have the time to cover on a regular basis but are certainly worthy of recognition.
With March fast approaching, the Arizona athletics department is still seeking its first team or individual Big 12 title. The Wildcats could secure a Big 12 trophy this week with swimming and diving and track and field (indoor) competing at conference championships.
The Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship is underway in Federal Way, Wash. Arizona secured nine podium finishes through the first two days, with three days of competition left to go.
On Wednesday Arizona diver Gage DuBois earned a second place finish in the 3m, while Brooke Earley placed third in the 1m. In the pool, Lexi Duchsherer finished in second in the 50 free for an NCAA B Cut time, while Malia Rausch placed third in the 500 free, also good enough for an NCAA B Cut time.
Arizona racked up five podium finishes Tuesday, including second place finishes by the women’s 200 medley relay team, the men’s 200 medley relay team, the women’s 800 free relay team and the men’s 800 free relay team.
Arizona divers DuBois, Theo Hrach and Colin Agor placed second in the men’s team diving event.
Finals continue Thursday evening and run through Saturday.
Track and field
Arizona track and field will compete in the Big 12 Indoor Championships beginning Friday and running through Saturday. The conference championships are being held in Lubbock, Texas.
Arizona enters the event with 16 individual wins this season. A total of 16 individuals (eight men and eight women) and two relay teams will compete.
The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
Women’s tennis
Arizona women’s tennis took down No. 51 BYU by a score of 4-1 Thursday in Tucson to open Big 12 play. The Wildcats improved to 9-4 on the season with the victory.
Arizona won the doubles point, then received singles victories from Tanvi Narendran, Danielle Tuhten and Zoya Chulak.
Arizona hosts Utah Saturday at noon MST.
