A St. Louis Blues team already worn down by injuries may have sustained yet another. Defenceman Philip Broberg left Saturday’s game in the second period with an apparent leg injury.
Broberg Leaves With Injury
Broberg was looking to play the puck along the boards in the defensive zone. The defenceman was pinched along the boards by Mitch Marner. As both players fell, Broberg’s right leg appeared to buckle. Broberg immediately grabbed his right knee. He skated off the ice while putting very little pressure on the right leg.
It did not take long for the Blues to announce that Broberg would not return. The team described it as a “lower-body injury.” While it is definitely a leg injury of some sort, that is all the information the Blues are providing at this time.

Blues Suffer Yet Another Injury
After the 2023-24 season that saw the Blues deal with little injuries, it seems the hockey world is trying to even things up. The injuries started with Torey Krug being ruled out for the season due to arthritis. The Blue Note started the season with a lingering injury for forward Oskar Sundqvist. Veteran defenceman Nick Leddy is currently on injured reserve. Furthermore, the Blues are playing without top forward Robert Thomas. The 2024 All-Star was placed on injured reserve and will not be evaluated until early December.
Next Man Up After Broberg Injury
While the extent of the injury is unknown, it can be assumed Broberg may miss some time. This will create an opportunity for someone to get playing time. The likely candidate at this time is Scott Perunovich. Like Broberg, he is a left-handed shot. However, unlike Broberg, Perunovich does not profile as a defensive player like Broberg does. Furthermore, Perunovich has not had the offensive success he was projected to have.
Deep Breathes in St. Louis
Blues fans will be nervously waiting the announcement of the injury’s severity. It is certainly yet another obstacle the Blues must overcome.
