2024 in review
Dylan Floro was drafted in the 13th round of the 2012 draft out of California State Fullerton by the Tampa Bay Rays. He had actually also been drafted by the Rays in 2009 out of high school, but did not sign. They must have really liked him. He has been quit a journeyman playing for the Rays, Dodgers, Marlins, Twins, Nationals, Reds, Cubs and Dbacks. He spent parts of 3 seasons with each the Dodgers and Marlins. Floro was also a member of the 2020 World Series Champion Dodgers*
Floro had a good first 51 appearances with the Nationals before coming to Arizona. In 52.1 innings, he struck out 40 to 13 walks and only gave up one home run. He had an ERA of 2.06 and a FIP of 2.63 with an opponents batting average of .222. His one home run allowed was a walkoff to Paul Goldschmidt the day before getting acquired by Arizona. In his final 18 games for the Nationals, he gave up 19 hits and 10 runs in 19 innings for a 3.79 ERA. To contrast that, in his first 33 games he threw 33.1 innings, struck out 25 while giving up 4 runs on 23 hits. He had an ERA of 1.08 and a FIP of 2.48. I think he was already starting to struggle and we ended up getting the worst of it.
On July 30, the Dbacks acquired Floro for minor league 3B Andres Chaparro. I put up a little article announcing the trade.

Floro had been having a good season with the Nationals, so at the time it seemed like a trade that could turn out well. Andres Chaparro had hit 19 HRs, and driven in 75, slashing .332/.403/.564 at Reno. Chaparro hit 4 home runs in 132 Major League plate appearances for Washington. The same amount of home runs Floro gave up in 16 innings for us…
His first two appearances for the Dbacks were positive. Got a win and a hold respectively in 2 total innings against the Pirates. His third game, against Cleveland, he got a hold but also gave up a run on 3 hits. The next night against the Phillies, he pitch 1⁄3 inning, but gave up two hits. Looking at the box score, he came in in relief of Jordan Montgomery. The Phillies plated 4 runs in that inning. In his last 11 games, he threw 13 innings, gave up 16 runs on 18 hits. He had an ERA of 10.80 along with a FIP at 7.14. Twice he surrendered 5 runs, in 2 out of his last 3 appearances. In both of those games he entered with the Brewers and Astros having leads already.
2025 Outlook
No idea, just won’t be pitching for us.
