But that was the only joy for the D-backs defense this season.
First baseman Christian Walker won his third Gold Glove, having previously won in 2022 and 2023. That’s the same number as the previous occupant of the position, Paul Goldschmidt, in his time with the Diamondbacks. Only Zack Greinke, with four Gold Gloves, has won more in Arizona. It’s a final honor for Walker, who will be one of the most sought-after free-agents at the position this winter, after playing eight seasons with the D-backs.
However, there was no joy for the four other Diamondbacks who had been nominated this year, the most by any team in the majors. Catcher Gabriel Moreno lost out to the Giants’ Patrick Bailey, and despite a clear improvement this year, Ketel Marte was beaten at second base by Brice Turang of the Brewers. In the outfield, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Jake McCarthy were also nominated, but the awards were given in left and right field to Ian Happ of the Cubs and Sal Frelick from the Brewers.
