Dbacks win their third straight, and most complete win of the season as Carroll goes off with a grand slam.
The Arizona Diamondbacks played their most complete game of the season Tuesday evening against the Miami Marlins beating them 10-4 and winning their 3rd game in a row. Previously in games following an off day this season, the Dbacks have struggled to get going. However, today seemed to make up for those previous games where every aspect of this team was firing on all cylinders.
Merrill Kelly kept the mojo that this starting rotation has had going continuing the streak of 6 consecutive quality starts from Dbacks starting pitchers. He allowed just 1 run in 6 innings while striking out a season high 9 Miami Marlins. He set down 15 of the final 16 Miami batters he faced as Kelly seemingly got stronger the deeper he went in the game. This is currently the longest such streak in the majors.
The Dbacks offense got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with a little old fashioned Chaos Ball! Alek Thomas continued his hot start with a 2 out single and then promptly advanced to third base on a throwing error by the catcher trying to catch him stealing 2nd. Corbin Carroll began his monster day with an RBI double after the Garrett Hampson walk to get the Dbacks on the board 1-0. Team captain Geraldo Perdomo followed the Carroll double with a 3 run shot continuing his blistering start to the season in which he has 16 RBI’s in the teams first 17 games and already matching his home run total from all of 2024. Dbacks up 4-0.
Newcomer Josh Naylor also contributed in this game with his second homer of the season in the top of the third inning. Dbacks 5-1.
In the top of the 6th inning, the hottest hitter in baseball Corbin Carroll proceeded to unload the bases with a 434 foot grand slam, his 6th home run of the season. Honestly at this point, I’m not sure I have really seen anything like the offense Carroll is currently providing for this team. I also cant understate just how timely this was for a team that had their MVP finalist from last season Ketel Marte go down with a hamstring strain.
With Kelly continuing the quality start streak for the starting pitchers, and the offensive outburst following the off day, I don’t think it is much of a question this was likely the most satisfying victory so far of the season. It is extremely encouraging for me to see guys like Carroll and Perdomo really carry this team the way they have with Marte being out, however what Carroll is doing seems special. His exit velocities have been off the charts and the regularity at which he is hitting the ball on the absolute screws is scary. I want to end this recap with a mic drop of Corbin Carroll’s savant page. Enough said:
