Jordan Montgomery in decent start shocker!
Record: 14-12-1. Change on 2024: +1.5. Five inning result: 15-10-2.
If you had told me Jordan Montgomery would anchor the team’s first shutout of 2025… Well, I’d not have believed you. But he threw 2.2 scoreless innings, and a largely B-bullpen followed up with 6.1 more of the same, completing a six-hitter. Yes, it was against the Rockies. But we’ll take it. It was certainly an improvement for Montgomery after his dismal first outing: he allowed three hits and a walk, striking out a pair. Bryce Jarvis tossed up a pair of zeroes, on two hits and a walk with three K’s, followed by scoreless innings from John Curtiss, Juan Morillo and Kyle Amendt. Conor Grames got the save, closing things out, around a one-out walk. But I’ll just leave this here:
There has been recent interest from a few teams in trading for Diamondbacks starter Jordan Montgomery. After a solid 2 2/3 scoreless outing today against Colorado in a spring training start there may be more.

As you’ll understand, there wasn’t much going on offensively for the Diamondbacks. Indeed, the Rockies outhit the “home” team, by a margin of 6-4, and had considerable more at-bats with runners in scoring position (7-2). Lourdes Gurriel Jr had half of Arizona’s hits, getting his spring average up to .273. He also drove in the D-backs’ only run, Corbin Carroll showing off his wheels by scoring all the way from first base on a bloop single by Gurriel. Carroll walked too, and his spring slash is .394/.459/.848 for an OPS of 1.307. I think he’s ready for Opening Day, a week tomorrow… Jake McCarthy walked and stole a base, while Garrett Hampson also had an SB.
The team stays at Salt River Fields for tomorrow’s game against the Athletics, with a 1:10 pm first pitch. We’re into “final warm-up territory” with Zac Gallen starting. Corbin Burnes starts the day after, though either could still becoming the Opening Day starter.
