Before the game today, the team DFA’d Dylan Floro and recalled Blake Walston from Reno. Floro had given up 10 runs in his last 3 outings, and in 15 games (16 innings) posted a 9.37 ERA, an ERA+ of 45, with a FIP that was 6.30 and a WHIP of 1.653… Andres Chapparro, who he was traded for has hit the same number of home runs as Floro has allowed, four of them. Walston has a 4.85 ERA and a WHIP of 1.53 in 65 innings. His most recent appearance for Reno was 5+ innings on September 10th.
The Brewers starter, opposing Gallen is DL Hall. He was drafted by the Orioles and Milwaukee acquired him this past February, along with Joey Ortiz, for Corbin Burnes. In his last 4 appearances, 16 innings, he has given up only 3 runs and struck out 21 and walked 7. Surprisingly, he has actually faced the Dbacks, one inning last September in a 7-3 win for Baltimore.
Jeff Banister will manage the @Dbacks today. Torey Lovullo is in California for the Celebration of Life for Billy Bean. Torey will be delivering the eulogy for his close friend.

Randal Grichuk was scratched from #Dbacks early lineup due to lower body tightness. He is available off the bench per Jeff Banister who is filling in for Torey Lovullo today

As of about 15 minutes before first pitch, the temperature in Phoenix is 100*, 95* on my patio in Marana and 80* in Milwaukee. MLB player says it is 77* inside Chase. Lunch rollcall is 2 brats with mustard, salt and vinegar potato chips and Paulaner Hefe-Weizen beer. The Phillies have already beaten the Mets, the Padres game is starting at around the same time as our game and the Braves don’t play until 4.
First inning
Turang steps in the box against Gallen to leadoff the ballgame, he will walk on 7 pitches. Chourio, 2-1, Gallen throws over to 1B, full count he will fly out to McCarthy on a pitch that probably was ball 4. Adames 3-0, Herrera snap throws to 1B, but Turang is back. Full count, he strikes out, as Turang steals 2B. Marte wasn’t able to field it cleanly and it rolls into shallow CF. Mitchell and another full count, he walks. Hoskins strikes out to end it. Gallen threw 28 pitches in that frame….14 for strikes.
Marte to lead things off and will ground out to Ortiz at 3B. Carroll singles to CF, I thought it was going to split the LFer and CFer for a second. Walker singled, Carroll to 3B. Suarez singles past their 1B on the first thing he sees, and it is 1-0 Dbacks! The DBacks have scored 111 runs in the first inning this season, leading the Majors. Bell singles to LF, Walker coming home to score and it is 2-0! McCarthy, first pitch hacking grounds into a 4-6-3 double play.
Second inning
My internet decided this would be an amazing time to crap out for 10 minutes so most of the second inning is just typing was gameday has.
Bauers grounded out to Perdomo. Ortiz struck out. Frelick sflew out to LF.
Perdomo grounded out to the catcher. Pavin Smith reached on an error by the 2B Turang. Herrera struck out. Marte with a full count, he walked. Carroll struck out to end it.
Looks like Gallen only needed 15 pitches to get out of the inning, he is now at 43 and Hall has 46.
Third inning
Eric Haase to lead things off, he singles up the middle on a ball that got deflected by the mound. Turang does the same. Chourio grounds into a 6-4-3 double play, actually Milwaukee will challenge the out at 1B. Call overturned, so it’ll be runners on the corners with one out. Adames strikes out. Mitchell also strikes out. The at bats to Adames and Mitchell seemed more like vintage Gallen.
Walker grounds out to 3B. Suarez gets a full count then strikes out swinging. Josh Bell walked. First pitch McCarthy sees a slider didnt slide and hits him in the elbow guard. Perdomo walks, so now the bases are loaded with 2 out. Joe Ross, RHP, will start throwing in the Brewers pen. Pavin Smith hits a bases clearing double down the RF line! Herrera strikes out on a foul tip.
Fourth inning
Hoskins singles to RF. Bauers flies out to Pavin. Ortiz strikes out looking on an inside pitch that might have been a ball. He wasnt happy, he has a point. Frelick flies out to RF to end it. Gallen is at 72 pitches.
Joe Ross now on to pitch for the Brewers. He is the younger brother of former Padres Tyson Ross. Marte strikes out. Corbin will also strike out. Walker, full count, he walks. Walker took off, but it wont matter as Suarez grounded out to Ortiz.
Fifth inning
Haase to lead things off against Gallen, he hits the ball up the middle and Gallen deflects it from the top of his glove. Turang singles to RF. Chourio hits a 3 run home run on a 1-2 pitch, but the ball was potentially a strike. Gallen wanted the call, so of course Chourio would homer on the next pitch. Thanks blue! The old 4 strike at bat! Adames flies out to McCarthy. I think they said Ginkle was warming up a few minutes ago. Mitchell grounded out. Gallen is approaching 100 pitches, Hoskins strikes out and he wasnt happy with a called strike pitch. Had a conversation with the ump after making the out.
Joe Ross still on the mound for Milwaukee. Bell walks on 4 pitches. McCarthy bunts, Haase overthrew it and it goes past Turang (?) covering 1st, McCarthy got thrown out trying to get to 2B and Josh Bell now on 3B. Perdomo strikes out looking on an inside pitch. This ump has a huge east-west zone. Pavin with a full count, strikes out swinging.
Sixth inning
Ginkel on the mound now for us. He pitched in 2 scoreless innings in 2 games last year in the NLWC, he struck out 5. Jake Bauers strikes out to start this frame. Ortiz then walked on 4 pitches. Frelick strikes out swinging. Haase homers to LF sort of by the foulpole and we are tied. Turang singles past Suarez. Mantiply will get up. Chourio singles in front of Suarez, little tapper that didnt get to Suarez fast enough. Adames doubles to LF, just fair. It is now 7-5 Milwaukee. Four consecutive 2 out hits against Ginkel. Mantiply is in the game, Blake Perkins will pinch hit for Mitchell, he struck out swinging but Adames was stealing 3B. The broadcast said he gets credit for the SB even though Perkins ended the inning. I must have misheard because the box score doesnt say a SB.
Perkins will stay in the game and play CF. Ross still out there. Herrera another questionable strike call, this time up, but he will fly out to Perkins. Marte full count, walks. Aaron Ashby comes in to pitch. Aaron Ashby is Andy Ashby’s nephew. Corbin grounds to Turang who tries for a 4-6-3 double play but Corbin is safe at 1B. Walker singles, Corbin to 3B. Suarez strikes out to end it.
Seventh inning
Ryan Thompson on to pitch. Hoskins walks on 4 pitches. Bauers, almost got hit, fell on his butt, bounces up the middle Perdomo stops it from going into CF but can’t make any play. Ortiz tries to sac bunt, but bunts it right at Thompson, who gets the runner goign to 3B and Suarez gets Ortiz. 1-5-3 double play. Frelick singles up the middle, 8-5 Milwaukee. Frelick steals 2B. Haase strikes out.
Ashby still in. Josh Bell hits a 424 foot double off the top of the CF wall. They are crew chief review to see if its a homer, they confirmed no home run. McCarthy grounded out to 2B, Bell to 3B. Perdomo singles in Bell. Grichuk to PH for Pavin. On a 3-1 count, Grichuk splits the gap in left-center for a double, scoring is Perdomo! 8-7 ballgame. Once again my internet craps out for 10 minutes. it always does this whenever Im trying to watch something. I missed the rest of the 7th and the entire top of the 8th, so Ill do my best with gameday for those parts. Gabby pinch hit for Herrera, and he grounded out. Payamps came on to pitch and got Marte to ground out to 2B.
Eight inning
Kevin Newman stays in to play LF, must of pinch run. ADC in to catch. Puk in to pitch. Turang grounded out, Chourio flied out to CF and then Adames struck out.
Ok, now back to actually watching. Trevor Megill comes on to pitch. Corbin walked and then stole 2B. Walker strikes out. Suarez 0-2, Megill spikes one allowing Corbin to get to 3B, on the 1-2 pitch Suarez hits a fly ball to CF and the throw home is late, Corbin scores on the sac fly. We are tied 8-8. Justin Martinez is throwing in our bullpen. Josh Bell grounds out to Turang on a full count. Corbin creating chaos.
Ninth inning
Martinez on to pitch. Brewers have Devin Williams and Jared Koenig throwing in the pen. Perkins strikes out to start it. Hoskins also strikes out. Bauers with a full count, he walked. Ortiz grounds out to Marte.
McCarthy, Perdomo and Kevin Newman to lead off our half. Jared Koenig in to pitch. McCarthy, first pitch hacking, pops up to Ortiz at 3B. Perdomo pops up to Adames at SS. Newman grounds out to 3B Ortiz who fielded it on the edge of the OF grass.
Tenth inning
Free baseball! I do believe this is the first time I have gotten an extra inning game. I think Newman will be our ghost runner and Ortiz should be theirs. Yep, Ortiz on 2B. Martinez still pitching. Frelick bunts, but pops it up and Suarez easily has it (FO5), bluffs a throw to 2B. Haas, full count now, the previous pitch Martinez stumbled a bit delivering the pitch, Haas flies out to Newman in LF on the warning track. Turang is intentionally walked. Chourio batting, two on and two out, he triples down the RF line both runs score. It is 10-8. Martinez exits the game, Blake Walston now in the ballgame. Adames, full count, and he will strike out.
Koenig still in for Milwaukee. Newman is our ghost runner. Del Castillo is batting, he singles through the hole on the right side of the infield, Brewers concede the run as Frelick throws the ball to 2B. Marte now, he singles to LF! Devin Williams, who was throwing earlier, begins throwing again. The broadcast was commenting on why Williams wasnt in the game a few batters ago. Corbin, squares up, he pulls it back, next pitch not bunting he grounds it past Turang! The bases are now loaded. The Brewers were thinking bunt all the way. Broadcast bringing up why didnt they have Williams in the game, again. Christian Walker, bases full, nobody out, hit batter! Walker shakes his head. We are tied. “And the 10,000$ question is, where is Devin Williams?” says Bert. Williams is sitting. Suarez, 3-1 count, FLY BALL TO RF AND ITS OFF THE WALL Walkoff win!!!!!! Nearly hit a walkoff grand slam.

The Dbacks scored 11 runs on 13 hits, were 7-16 with RISP and left 12 on base and had no errors. The Brewers scored 10 runs, including 8 unanswered at one point, they were 4-14 with RISP and left 9 on base and committed 2 errors. Time of the ball game, 3 hours and 50 minutes with an attendance of over 33,000. Phillies beat the Mets earlier, the Padres won in extras and the Braves currently lead the Dodgers 2-0 after 4.
At the time of this posting, the GDT had 195 comments, it was pretty slow at first. There were 3 red comments, as one was a warning and another was a comment about Gallen walking people (Oh, yeah, he started huh? lol) I am awarding COTD to Hacks.
What makes it even better is it was Suarez that would eventually walk this off…
