Twice the games, and twice the wins!
Record: 8-9-1. Change on 2024: +1.5. Five inning result: 9-8-1.
Let’s begin at SRF, where Arizona pounded Texas 14-1, helped by a ten-run fifth inning where Arizona sent 14 men to the plate, and Caleb Roberts hit a grand-slam. Eugenio Suarez got three hits, while Randal Grichuk and Trey Mancini each had a pair, Grichuk also going deep. Grae Kessinger reached base three times, on a hit and a pair of walks. The pitching was plenty good enough to make that stand up, with Corbin Burnes working four scoreless innings on two hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Kyle Backhus struck out three over two scoreless innings, with Ryan Thompson and Jake Rice also put up zeroes. Kyle Amendt was the only D-backs pitcher to allow a run.
The game in Vegas was closer, but the D-backs still beat the Athletics 7-5, coming from 4-0 down. Blake Walston dug the hole. allowing three runs in 2.1 innings on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. But Jeff Brigham steadied the ship and got the W for two innings in relief. The Arizona offense clawed their way back into the game, taking the lead in the sixth, and showing good plate discipline with nine walks. Geraldo Perdomo had two of them plus a hit, with five other players each getting a hit and a walk, including Ketel Marte and Josh Naylor. The team stole six bases, with two apiece for Perdomo and Jake McCarthy. However, Jose Herrera left the game with wrist soreness after a collision at home-plate.
Tomorrow, the whole team will be back together in Phoenix, and will be coming over to Camelback Ranch to face the Dodgers. John Curtiss will get the start, as the major starters are kept away from a division rival. First pitch there will be 1:05 pm.
