Three hours and 42 minutes later…
Record: 16-12-1. Change on 2024: +2. Five inning result: 17-10-2.
The two sides tonight combined for 32 hits, 16 walks, 4 errors and 25 runs. As you can imagine, it was the offense which took center stage for the D-backs, pounding out 16 runs on 18 hits. They got started quickly, with two-run homers in the first from Lourdes Gurriel Jr (below) and Gabriel Moreno. The former finished with three hits and four RBI, while Gaby had two hits. But it was Ketel Marte who starred, going 4-for-4 and was a home-run short of the cycle by the middle of the fourth. The D-backs went 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position, but did commit four errors. Pavin Smith was lifted with a wrist contusion, but is considered day-to-day.

Corbin Burnes made his final start before it matters, and… yeah. Not quite what we wanted. He got his up-downs in, but was charged with eight runs, all but one earned, on 11 hits over just 2.2 innings. He did walk none and struck out five, while he wasn’t helped by poor defense behind him, though his location left something to be desired. Below, you can see his post-game comments. The rest of the pitchers fared better, with the only damage an unearned run off Joe Mantiply (though he did walk three of the six batters he faced). Ryan Thompson threw a pair of scoreless innings and Jake Rice retired all four batters faced, with two strikeouts.

Tomorrow, it’s off to Scottsdale to face the Giants, with Brandon Pfaadt getting the start. Remember that’s been moved up, so the first pitch there is now at 12:05 pm.
