E-Rod looked pretty impressive today.
Record: 11-10-1. Change on 2024: +2. Five inning result: 11-9-2.
Eduardo Rodriguez and the D-backs took a perfect game into the sixth inning this afternoon at Salt River. E-Rod looked particularly good, retiring all eleven batters he faced, six of them on strikeouts. Kevin Ginkel got the last out in the fourth, and Shelby Miller worked a perfect fifth, before A.J. Puk gave up the challenge in the sixth. After striking out the first two he faced, he allowed a home-run to Sammy Stafura, before rebounding with another K. Joe Mantiply and Justin Martinez put up zeroes in the seventh and eighth, though the former allowed a hit and a walk. Drey Jameson did the same in the ninth, before Bryce Jarvis came in and walked the bases loaded before closing out the game.
Arizona did not have a lot of offense either, managing only four hits, though they did draw six walks against only four strikeouts. Ketel Marte and Pavin Smith each had a hit and a walk, and were responsible for driving in the two D-backs runs with the former. Marte got Arizona on the board in the second inning when he singled in Alek Thomas. After Puk had surrendered the lead, Smith gave the Diamondbacks their winning margin with a solo home-run, his second of spring, in the eighth. He’s now batting .259/.375/.481 for an OPS of .856, which is a good deal better line than Pavin had a couple of days ago! Corbin Carroll also had a double, as the D-backs went above .500 for the first time in 2025.
In case you missed the comment in Snake Bytes, there were some roster moves before the game. After these, they now have 40 players in camp.
