If the D-backs win, and it’s not on TV or radio – did it really happen?
Record: 1-3. Change on 2024: -1. Five inning result: 2-2.
After three defeats, which should largely go down to inexperienced pitching, Zac Gallen showed up, and proved to be the “stopper”. Ok, admittedly he only tossed one inning, and allowed a run on a two-out solo homer. But it was the start of a decent outing by most of the D-backs’ staff, holding the Guardians to four hits. In particular, the back end of the bullpen tossed four consecutive hitless inning. This was polished off by Conor Grammes getting two K’s around a walk and a hit batter in the ninth,to notch the first save of 2025 by a Diamondback. Gallen struck out two around the long ball, and Blake Walston worked a pair of scoreless innings, on a hit and two walks, with one strikeout.

Arizona had to come back from 3-0 down, after Josh Winder gave up two runs in the top of the fourth. They started with Corbin Carroll’s first home-run of the season (above), and then took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. got the second RBI with a sacrifice fly, scoring Garrett Hampson, and later in the inning, Eugenio Suarez delivered the key knock, with a double which drove in the tying and go-ahead runs for the Diamondbacks. Carroll and Suarez each drew a walk in addition to their hit, although the team were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, Eugenio getting the only hit.
With the team now ensconced in the victory column, the D-backs will now try to put together a winning streak. Tomorrow sees the team travel down to Sloan Park for a game against the Cubs. A.J. Puk is the scheduled starter, in what looks like a contest in which we might see a few familiar bullpen names. First pitch is at 1:05 pm, but again there does not appear to be any broadcast planned.
