Not exactly a well-pitched game.
Record: 5-6-1. Change on 2024: -0.5. Five inning result: 7-4-1.
One inning into today’s game, the D-backs were 5-1 up. Unfortunately, they let the Giants score ten unanswered runs, managing to stop San Francisco from scoring just twice in their nine times up. Brandon Pfaadt lasted only four outs, allowing six hits and a walk, with a pair of strikeouts, and being charged with three earned runs. Of the ten pitchers Arizona used, only two – Kyle Backhus and Brandon Bielak – managed to work a whole inning without being charged with a run. Kyle Nelson allowed a two-run homer in the third, while non-roster invitees John Curtis^2 and Scott McGough were the best known names to give up a run in action this afternoon.
Omg… Gabriel Moreno just hit a home run to the .

The D-backs scored five in the first, with Gabriel Moreno’s monster three-run shot (above, measured at 456 feet) the icing on the cake, after an RBI single by Lourdes Gurriel Jr, and a sacrifice fly by Josh Naylor. Jake McCarthy had three of the team’s dozen hits, and the Diamondbacks certainly had plenty of opportunities. However, they only went 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position – both of the hits coming in the first inning, after which they were 0-for-13. But by the end, we were using pitchers who have never pitched above High A level. Though the final score was not helped by three unearned runs in the ninth, after an error by Tim Tawa, playing second-base.
Forget it all and move on, I think. Tomorrow sees an unusual day in a couple of ways. It’s the first split-squad game of the year, with Merrill Kelly staying at Salt River to face the Mariners, while Ryne Nelson goes West, to take on the Guardians in Goodyear. Those are also both evening games, with first pitches of 6:05 and 6:40 pm respectively.
