Jordan Montgomery made his 2025 debut!
Record: 6-9-1. Change on 2024: -0.5. Five inning result: 8-7-1.
In Goodyear, it was a mixed day in a 9-8 loss. Zac Gallen got his up-downs in three innings, and didn’t allow a hit in six outs with three K’s. But he walked three, and was inefficient. Still, better than Jordan Montgomery’s debut. He took 28 pitches for one out, allowing two hits, two walks and a hit batter, all five men scoring. Arizona came back, leveling the score at six, largely thanks to a Eugenio Suarez grand-slam (below). But Justin Martinez struggled with control, and was charged with three runs while recording one out. Corbin Carroll had a pair of hits, while Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Trey Mancini and Randall Grichuk each got a hit and a walk, and Jack Hurley went deep. Kyle Nelson and Shelby Miller had scoreless frames.

Though starting an hour later, the game in Las Vegas actually finished first, Arizona losing 4-2 there. Tommy Henry got the start and worked three inning, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks, with one strikeout. Yordin Chalas worked two scoreless, and if you know who he is, you’re more well-informed than I (he hasn’t pitched above High-A, so this was actually impressive). William Corcoran struck out a pair in a scoreless eighth, but not much in the way of offense to speak of, with the Diamondbacks managing only five hits. Josh Naylor had one of those and a walk, while Jordan Lawlar had a double and Ryan Waldschmidt went deep in the eighth inning (below).

Tomorrow is another split-squad double-header. Blake Walston will start against the A’s in Las Vegas, while Corbin Burnes gets to enjoy home cooking, and will go against the Rangers back at Salt River Fields.
