Hopefully the bats will be released tonight.
Roster moves:
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Selected from Triple-A Reno: LHP Brandon Hughes
- Placed on 15-day injured list: RHP Ryne Nelson (right shoulder inflammation; retro to Sept. 11)
- Designated for assignment: C Andrew Knizner
James already did a separate piece about this, mostly talking about Nelson. I want to mention Hughes and Knizner. The latter… I wasn’t aware was even on the roster. having been selected by the D-backs off waivers from the Rangers on August 8th. That was in the wake of the injury to Gabriel Moreno, presumably as insurance in case Adrian Del Castillo couldn’t hack it. Hughes has had three stints in the majors so far this season, though the results have not been impressive. In 14 innings, he has allowed 23 hits, a startling eight of which became souvenirs, leading to a 10.29 ERA. I suspect he’s only here for the short-term until a decision is made regarding the spot in the rotation.
Of course, scoreboard watching is in full effect again tonight. We begin with some good news, as the Phillies beat the Mets 6-4 tonight, so that’s a positive. The Braves’ game against the Dodgers will get under way about ten minutes before this gets posted, and the Padres’ contest in San Francisco starts almost an hour after things at Chase Field, with a first pitch at 6:05 pm. Hopefully, all the results will end up being the reverse of what we saw yesterday. That would effectively mean no change in the standings, but with two games crossed off the schedule, it would benefit the teams in front. Which would, of course, be the Diamondbacks.
