The team has been playing better, but…
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Arizona Diamondbacks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Arizona has been doing better, winning five of the last six games to move comfortably above .500 (though still occupy fourth place in the NL West!). But there is still certainly room for improvement, with a number of players who could play a good deal better. On offense, Eugenio Suarez has cooled off dramatically after winning the National League Player of the Week honor for the first week, and is now batting a mere .153 for the year. That’s the same batting average as is currently “enjoyed” by catcher Gabriel Moreno – and he is still without an extra-base hit this season.
The starting pitching has also been an area of concern, though has now posted six quality starts in a row, for the first time since 2017. But Zac Gallen, Corbin Burnes and Eduardo Rodriguez still each have an ERA north of four and a half – while combining to earn north of $65 million between them. They have a record of 1-5 and an ERA of 4.89. Owner of the biggest contract in team history, Burnes, has a FIP of 5.90. So of those five players, whose underwhelming start concerns you most? That’s what the poll below is for, and please don’t forget to explain your choice in the comments!
I’ll post the survey results later in the week.
