Mejia pitched six innings of one-hit, shutout baseball before giving up a solo homer in the seventh inning
Diamondbacks affiliates aside from Reno had their regularly scheduled day off, so there’s just the one game, per usual.
This game was not close at all until the bottom of the ninth, when Oklahoma City plated four runs. Humberto Mejia was excellent, with the only run allowed coming in the seventh inning, via solo home run. Mejia allowed just two hits overall, along with three walks, while striking out six. Ryan Buchter relieved Mejia in the eighth and pitched a scoreless inning, with a hit, a balk, and a walk allowed, while striking out three. Cameron Gann had a rough outing in the ninth, and ended up going just a 1⁄3 of an inning, while allowing four runs on two hits, a wild pitch and two walks. Miguel Aguilar relieved Gann with two on and only one out, and allowed both inherited runners to score. Aguilar allowed a hit and a walk, but got the final two outs to end the game.
Back to back singles by Jake McCarthy and Jose Herrera put runners on with nobody out for Juniel Querecuto in the top of the fourth. Quercuto ground into a double play, but McCarthy was able to score for the first run of the game. In the top of the fifth Ben DeLuzio doubled, and Drew Ellis followed up with a homer, giving the Aces a 3-0 lead. In the 7th, Camden Duzenack singled, Humberto Mejia sacrifice bunted him to second, and Nick Heath singled advancing him to third. The red hot Ben DeLuzio singled, scoring Duzenack, giving the Aces a 4-0 lead. Drew Ellis unfortunately ground into a double play after that to end the inning. In the top of the eighth, with the score now 4-1, Seth Beer was hit by pitch, and scored on Jake McCarthy’s triple with nobody out. Jose Herrera followed up with a single, scoring McCarthy. Juniel Querecuto singled, and Camden Duzenack flew out for the first out of the inning. Christian Lopes, pinch hitting for Mejia, singled scoring Herrera, and putting the score at 7-1.
Ben DeLuzio 3-5 with a double.
