The Yankees are on the verge of their first World Series since 2009
It’s odd to think that sixteen different teams have been to the World Series since the last time for the Yankees – including the Nationals. Rays and, of course, the D-backs. In years, their current gap matches the 1981-1996 one. Though there were no playoffs in 1994, and New York did have the best record in the American League at the time the season was canceled. The last time the Yankees went fifteen seasons in a row without a World Series would be from when they (and the WS) were founded in 1903, through 1920. Unless something unlikely happens, they will be back there next week. But maybe Cleveland can avoid prolonging their record World Series title drought, the fourth longest in history.
