Diamondbacks would like to name closer by end of spring training, still looking to add
“We’re just here to win,” Puk said on Wednesday when asked about competing for the closer’s role. “I don’t know what the roles would be, if it’s gonna be the same thing with the matchups. All I want to do is just win, get to the World Series and win a ring. Whatever those matchups are, whatever role they put me in, I’ll be happy.”
“I’m not really thinking about that,” Martinez added. “I’m here to work hard be able to show that I’m ready.”

D-backs’ Ryne Nelson keeping things in perspective this spring training
“I did not add anything,” Nelson said. “I would love to be able to add a sinker, a knuckleball, a splitter, but I think that can be a little overwhelming sometimes.
“Jack of all trades, master of none. I tried to just keep what I had and sharpen and refine.”

D-backs RHP Drey Jameson confident he’ll be ready for Opening Day
“I know he was champing at the bit, me just spending three months here I can’t imagine what a whole year feels like,” Kelly said. “I feel like he handled it pretty well. I never really heard him gripe or complain about doing anything and got his stuff done. I know he’s been throwing cheese in the bullpen.”

Diamondbacks’ New Ace Focused on Building Relationships
“That’s a relationship [with Moreno] that’s going to take time to grow. I’ve done kind of three years in a row now with a new catcher, so it’s something I’ve gotten used to, but we’ve got seven or eight weeks here at camp to get it figured out. It’s a relationship that will continue to grow throughout the entire year,” Burnes said.

The Baseball Hall of Fame had a secret inductee.
In 1988, a surreptitious addition to the Baseball Hall of Fame was made without anyone knowing. A bar owner visiting the hall slipped a photo of his father in a baseball cap into one of the glass cases. This photo remained in the hall for over 6 years before being discovered.
