Arizona House passes tax recapture bill for Chase Field, which moves to Senate
Jim posted this late last night in the comments of yesterday’s Bytes. It’s important enough that I am going to lead off with it today. (so more people can see it)
The Arizona House of Representatives passed HB 2704, a tax recapture bill that will fund renovations at Chase Field, with bipartisan support on Wednesday. The vote came out to 35-25, and the bill moves onto the Arizona Senate. If it passes there, it will end up on the desk of Gov. Katie Hobbs to sign into law.

Breaking News: Chase Field Funding Approved by Arizona State House
“Today was a first step victory in this much-needed public/private partnership. It shows the momentum that has been behind this bill and we are grateful to Representative Wenninger and Governor Hobbs for the leadership and encouragement, as well as all House Representatives who supported it. Allowing this proud franchise to remain at Chase Field for continued economic and community impact is in the best interest of the City, County, State, and Major League Baseball.”
Drey Jameson makes 1st game appearance in 600 days, Corbin Carroll continues to mash
“My legs wouldn’t stop shaking, so I kept telling myself I’ve already got the first couple pitches over, like, stop shaking,” Jameson said. “I was amped up, obviously, I haven’t been on that kind of a stage in a long time, so just the jitters and excitement of being able to do that again was going through my head at that time. I wasn’t really thinking baseball. It was just like, ‘I’m glad I’m out here being able to do this again.’”

Corbin Carroll Hits Grand Slam in Lopsided D-backs Win
The manager noted that Lawlar would continue to focus on third base and shortstop. “We feel very good about his ability to play all three, but for right now to simplify it for a young mind and a young body who’s here to compete and show us what he can do… I feel like Jordan’s time is coming.”

ASU head coach Dillingham captivates D-backs in ST visit
“I was probably the worst manager in baseball [today],” Lovullo said. “I didn’t go out and watch our players work out, because I had Kenny Dillingham in my office. We really hammered away at some really, really deep stuff that I’ll take with me. I was really excited about that, so I didn’t waste that opportunity to get to know him a little bit. He made us better than [we were before] he walked in this building.”

Goldy has faith Cards can finish what he left behind
“We all know this is a part of the business and something like this could have happened,” Goldschmidt said on Wednesday before going 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the Yankees’ 7-0 win over the Cardinals. “There definitely were some good times, and 2022 was special in so many ways, but last year was also the most disappointing year because I felt like we had a chance to make some noise and maybe win the whole thing.”

Chafin’s return finds him battling for spot in deeper ‘pen
“He wants to make the team, and I think the best thing he can do is just lock in on the strike zone and get himself physically and competitively ready to make his case to make this team,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “As I told him, we’re a different team than the one he got traded from, from an experience level, from a maturity level.
