(Arizona Sports) D-backs receiving trade interest in CFs Jake McCarthy, Alek Thomas
Arizona has dug into its outfield depth over the past couple seasons to add to areas of need, most notably after the 2022 season when the D-backs shipped Daulton Varsho to Toronto for Gurriel and catcher Gabriel Moreno. The Diamondbacks also dealt Dominic Canzone in the Paul Sewald trade and Dominic Fletcher to the White Sox for pitching prospect Cristian Mena over the past 18 months.
That does not mean Thomas or McCarthy will be traded or the D-backs are trying to trade them. Arizona has received plenty of calls for players since the season ended, and the organization has big decisions to make on how to proceed after missing the postseason with 89 wins.

On Friday, Orioles general manager Mike Elias announced that the team is planning to move in the left-field wall at its home ballpark ahead of the 2025 season in an attempt to correct the issues that arose following the decision to push it back prior to the ‘22 campaign. Simply put, Elias called the latest decision the pursuit of a “happier medium” to fix an overcorrection, as the new wall won’t be as shallow as the ballpark’s original, either.
(MLBTR) Pirates To Hire Brent Strom As Assistant Pitching Coach
It comes as something of a surprise that Strom accepted an assistant pitching coach role. He’d been a team’s top pitching voice for more than a decade. The Astros hired him as pitching coach going into the 2014 season. He quickly secured a reputation as one of the sport’s top coaches. Houston had quite a few developmental success stories among their young arms over his eight-year tenure. Arizona hired Strom during the 2021-22 offseason. He held a role on Torey Lovullo’s staff for three years.
