Los Angeles Dodgers starter Trevor Bauer has been suspended by Major League Baseball for a total of 324 games, according to Jeff Passan. This is due to an alleged violation of MLB’s domestic violence policy. It is the longest suspension in the policy’s existence. Per ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, “Bauer…was accused of sexual assault by a San Diego woman.” The accuser filed for a restraining order. While the court granted a temporary one, they later denied a permanent one. Bauer never faced any charges. The former Cy Young Award winner has been on administrative leave since the middle of last season. Bauer, who has emphatically proclaimed his innocence, is appealing the suspension.

In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league’s domestic violence & sexual assault policy. I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives & I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings.

The Career of Trevor Bauer
Trevor Bauer was originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the third overall pick of the 2011 Draft. In 2012, he broke out, garnering 12 wins and pitching to a 2.42 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A. He made his big league debut that season, giving up 13 runs in four games. That December, he was part of a blockbuster three-team deal. In it, the Cleveland Indians sent, among others, outfielder Shin-Shoo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds sent shortstop Didi Gregorious to the Diamondbacks. Bauer, Matt Albers, and Bryan Shaw all went from Arizona to Cleveland. After spending some more split time between the majors and minors, Bauer had his first consistent big league experience in 2014.
Trevor Bauer had his first true success in 2018, winning 12 contests and pitching to a 2.21 ERA with a 196 ERA+. Midway through 2019, he headed from Cleveland to Cincinnati in another three-team deal. His time with the Reds began in rough fashion, but he quickly bounced back in the COVID-shortened 2020. He won the Cy Young Award, pitching to a 1.73 ERA with a 0.795 WHIP and a 284 ERA+. During the offseason, he signed a three-year deal with the Dodgers. Before the accusation, he went 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA and a 160 ERA+.
